Looking for a smartwatch for your child? Is the all-new HereO the right choice for you?
Wearable tech for children has become increasingly popular over the last few years as parents begin to appreciate it as a way to increase communication with their children without having to resort to buying them smartphones, which raise safety concerns for a lot of parents.
The HereO smartwatch is one of the most high profile of the new brands to hit the market. It labels itself the “smallest, coolest GPS watch for kids”, but does the product itself live up to this title?
The product certainly is small and cool. Designed for children aged three and up, the HereO seems like a better choice for parents of young children rather than pre-teens or teenagers due to its bright, colourful designs.
The HereO describes itself as “fun for kids, essential for parents” — what features make the HereO worthy of this claim?
The HereO’s primary function is as a time cellular-connected GPS tracking device. Knowing the whereabouts of your children when they’re out with friends, on their way home from school or simply out of the house is the main goal many parents want from a smartwatch, so this is a great feature for the HereO to have.
The HereO’s GPS system allows it to boast features such as being able to locate your child anywhere, anytime and allowing parents to receive notifications and alerts regarding your child’s arrivals and departures from various locations.
The HereO accompanying app is described as a “location service for the entire family”. Through it, parents can check the entire family’s current locations and their location history through a single device. You can also set safezones (areas like home and school which you deem to be safe) and receive alerts whenever your child enters or leaves them.
The app also lets you set panic alerts which can be sent to the whole family, and lets your child be notified of the quickest directions to other family members’ locations.
Through the app, you can also send messages to your entire family with a single clock. However, unlike other models like the FiLIP smartwatch, there is no voice calling feature meaning you cannot ring your child and speak to them as you would on a phone.
HereO make a lot of fuss about the design of their smartwatch, and with good reason. The models are bright and colourful, coming in range of colour combinations so your child can pick their favourite. The models are small with a rounded, child-friendly design which makes them look attractive — especially for younger children.
Despite this, the HereO device doesn’t possess any entertainment for children, unlike other models which have games programmed in. The HereO’s design is so good that children will likely want one just for the way it looks, but for those kids used to playing on their parents’ mobile devices, the lack of in-built entertainment may be seen as a let down.
One of the best things about the HereO smartwatch is its durability. It boasts a battery life of up to sixty hours and it is also waterproof. It uses a combination of GSM, GPS and Wi-Fi to determine location, meaning you’ll find some of the most advanced smartwatch technology in this model.
It’s also lightweight and travel friendly, weighing only 40g and measuring a maximum of 136mm. Your child can take it wherever they go.
The HereO is a popular choice amongst children despite its lack of built-in entertainment, due to its attractive design. If GPS is your primary concern, rather than features such as voice calling, then the HereO could be the durable, attractive model you need for your child.
